The pop-up cafes of Lausanne

Once the sun pokes out the tip of its nose and temperatures rise, it means that the summer season is upon us. In tandem, pop-up premises sprout up in every corner of the city, offering the great scents of summer. Places where you can sip a drink as the sun’s last rays fade and then sample fine regional produce. Above all, you can put the world to rights with friends, family or colleagues.

The “Jetée de la Compagnie”

With its blue metal container, the Jetée de la Compagnie no longer needs any introduction. Over recent years, it has become THE place for the summer. Whether it is for drinks at sunset after work, a brunch, a yoga lesson or even a quick dip thanks to the lake access point, the Jetty is irresistible for close friends, especially when the fine odour of grilled food tickles your nostrils.

Le Minimum

Just along from the Jetée de la Compagnie is Le Minimum. A new arrival among the open-air cafes of Lausanne, its cream and green-shaded wooden structure reminds you of a beach hut. The local produce here is highly rated! Some dishes are even produced by members of the owners’ family. Its logo, an invitation to dress light taking the form of a pictogram of a bikini bottom, really evokes the chilled ambience of the place.

La Grenette

La Grenette draws its inspiration from the trendy terraces of Berlin. Odd tables and chairs and a string of fairy lights establish a relaxed urban ambience. On Place de la Riponne, its bar is home to a fine selection of gin and tonics, La Nébuleuse branded beers custom-made for La Grenette and Soulberry craft cordials. The culinary offering comprises Korean-inspired cuisine that is a treat for the taste buds.

The little bonus that makes all the difference here is a free crèche welcoming children aged 3 to 12. Classy, eh?

Les Grandes Roches

Formerly Bourg Plage, this place remains the same but now goes by the name of Terrasse des Grandes Roches. The terrace is hidden under an arch of the Pont Bessières bridge, practical indeed when it rains yet you want to drink outside. Palm trees, multi-coloured fairy lights, table football and billiards establish the décor for a chilled venue where you will want to hang out with friends.

La Folie Voltaire

Situated in the heart of the pastoral Parc de Mon-Repos, the Folie Voltaire encourages relaxation through its romantic name and its location under the trees. It does you good to sip a drink here or to savour a meal or dessert. It is an ageless haven of calm.

The Jungle Bar

A patch of green right in the heart of the Flon district?! Welcome to the Jungle Bar, truly a green, wooded oasis. A little bonus this year is that it is now possible to order your meals in different Flon restaurants and to eat on the terrace of the Jungle Bar. Perfect when you are in a group and each person has a different preference.

La Galicienne

We owe La Galicienne to the same group that opened the Jetée de la Compagnie. This unusual place, situated under the Le Galicien viaduct in Malley is more than a pop-up venue it’s a real cultural hub because here, as well as enjoying a drink, you can find workshops of every kind, concerts and dance parties… all completely free. See you there?

La Terrasse à Lutry

What could be better than a view over the lake, the port and the mountains so as to truly make the most of the summer? On a fine day, La Terrasse is a little jewel for the Lausanne region. On a little raised esplanade on the Lutry quayside, La Terrasse offers grilled food, salads and pizzas in a bohemian atmosphere.
