New Year’s Eve in Lausanne

The first windows of the Advent calendar have already been opened and the race to buy gifts is on, with its usual brain racking. Then the same question as every previous year arises: What shall we do on New Year’s Eve?

Every time, we had decided to plan ahead, but we never do and only start thinking about it in December, when we get into a frazzle. And yet, there is a lot to choose from, especially in Lausanne. Here’s our top 5 for New Year’s Eve in the Vaud capital.

New Year’s Eve at the Vaudoise Arena

The brand-new ice rink doesn’t only see the action of Lausanne Hockey Club (LHC) players and their opponents; it also transforms into a concert venue, complete with a dance floor for December 31st. The MAD Club presents the Vaudoise Arena – New Year. If you feel like strutting your stuff in the middle of the rink while chanting “Ramenez la coupe à la maison” (“Bring the cup back home” – even if we didn’t bring it back ourselves, the lyrics are catchy) with Vegedream, that’s where you need to be. But that’s not all. You can also rehearse the lyrics for “Ces soirées-là” to accompany Yannick like in the good old noughties and NâdiyA singing “Et c’est parti pour le show”. Not sure the LHC team will be able to play on the ice again after a New Year Eve’s that will bring the house down!

Bô Noël’s Silent Party

This year once again, the giant Silent Party organised by Bô Noël is back and is becoming an absolute must to dance in the New Year. The Place Centrale transforms into an open-air club for an event that is both popular and trendy, in complete “silence”. What colour headset will you choose?

The unmissable blazing Cathedral

As every year since 1904, the Cathedral is set alight to welcome in the New Year. The meeting place is well known to Lausanners: the Cathedral’s Esplanade, in a friendly atmosphere with champagne, mulled wine, apple juice and tea! Before the Cathedral is lit up, don’t miss the great organ concert inside.

Catherine d’Oex’s review

If you’d like to greet 2020 with a laugh, head towards the Brasserie de Montbenon for a delicious dinner and a provocative show. The BM and its magnificent dome become a transformist cabaret that will present a number of burlesque numbers with songs, dance moves and bawdy humour to cross from 2019 to 2020 in good spirits. Not forgetting the menu that will make your mouth water!
