A mediaeval neighbourhood, colourful and trendy
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Lausanne, but also and especially the most colourful, the Rôtillon is well-known by all Lausanne citizens and visitors for its small buildings that provide its particular charm. In the heart of the town centre, the Rôtillon is the perfect blend of contemporary architecture and mediaeval remnants. The best viewpoint to observe it? The Bessières Bridge, which offers a wonderful view of the whole neighbourhood. ?

The Rôtillon neighbourhood isn’t only a colourful little corner in town. Small boutiques, hairdressers and concept stores have found refuge in its mediaeval alleys. Caramel beurre salé concept store is the meeting place for decoration ideas, delicatessen, unique cosmetics, as well as a hair salon and distinctive choice of plus-sized clothing. Just a few yards away, enter a real cabinet of curiosities: Micky’s house. Vintage and industrial furniture, delicatessen, unique decoration objects, it’s a world only to be discovered in that neighbourhood. Don’t forget to stop at the boutique of ready-to-wear clothing for women, The Liberty Shop, at Chabada vintage for unique and authentic pieces or at My Deadly Shop in the rue Cheneau-de-Bourg to discover a world of rock and pin ups. For men who prefer the streetwear rock style, Crash is an Aladdin’s cave bursting with specialised brands.
Restaurants and Cafés
And what about having a drink? Once more, the neighbourhood has plenty to offer. For a coffee or an afterwork, head to the Café des Artisans, at the entrance to the Rôtillon. L’Eligo offers a refined cuisine and seasonal products; at Duke’s Bar, wine, tapas and music are on the menu; at the Perbacco! you’ll savour homemade Italian cooking; and the Blackbird Café is the headquarters for lovers of brunches, sandwiches and hot drinks of all kinds. The Grappe d’Or is a well-known address in Lausanne for its Italian cuisine, and finally, for those in a hurry, the rue Cheneau-de-Bourg is also home to Holy Cow! and its first-rate burgers.
Keep your eyes open! At the corner of a lane, on a bridge or simply on a square, artist Zaric’s statues, half-men, half-beasts, bring an additional artistic touch.
It’s also possible to discover one of the smallest museums in Lausanne, the Shoe Museum.
And, of course, the famous Titeuf fresco that decorates the neighbourhood and comes to life thanks to the application ôpp ! Titeuf – Murs à dessins.
