Lausanne: a bunch of activities for rainy days

The time has come again to take your wellies and umbrella out of the cupboard...

But we don’t let it get to us, and we decide to make the most of this rainy weather to indulge ourselves. So what does Lausanne have to offer when it’s raining? Here we share our ideas with you!

Have brunch in one of Lausanne’s famous restaurants

To keep up your strength and get ready for the rain, we recommend that you start the day with a good brunch. And in Lausanne, there is no shortage of good addresses for brunch.

So enjoy the succulent brunches in Le Pointu  with its “homemade” philosophy, the pancakes (to die for!) in Blackbird and the cosy atmosphere in Java. We guarantee you will find something to delight your taste buds!

Se réfugier dans les musées de la ville

When the weather has taken a turn for the worse, what better than to visit the exhibitions you promised you would visit. In summer and winter, Lausanne boasts an incredible diversity of cultural activities; in addition, there is something to suit every taste!

The Olympic Museum in Ouchy is a must, and it’s a real pleasure to discover or rediscover it, especially since every year a new exhibition is on show here. The museum is above all a playful and immersive place. The history of the Olympic Games, the Olympic sports and their champions are presented in a totally interactive way. In short, a visit to the Olympic Museum is a moment of discovery in the sports shoes of the greatest Olympic athletes. Younger visitors will love it (and they’re not the only ones, that’s for sure).

We also love the splendid view from the TOM Café!

A few metres from the Olympic Museum, the Musée de l’Elysée is also worth a visit. A museum entirely dedicated to photography that should interest the whole family. On the programme?  Discovery tour, “Make your poster” workshop, workshops and courses for adults, but also photographs to touch which make art accessible to the visually impaired. Finally, we can’t help but take a detour to the museum’s cosy coffee shop and bookstore.

By 2021, the Musée de l’Elysée will move to Plateforme 10, Lausanne’s new art district. Moreover, why not visit the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts there ? Since October 5, 2019, the MCBA has been welcoming its visitors to this unique place entirely dedicated to culture!

Another idea: on the heights of Lausanne, the Hermitage Foundation invites you to discover exhibitions of unique paintings and sculptures. Don’t forget to register your children for the workshops, they will come back excited while you have had time to stroll around this former mansion to discover the works of great artists. Feel free to stop for a drink at l’Esquisse, the foundation’s restaurant. And for the gourmets, on Sundays at l’Esquisse it’s Art & Brunch!

Shopping in the best spots in Lausanne

No need for the sun to shop! And besides, there is nothing better than taking advantage of the bad weather to go shopping without feeling guilty. To our delight, shops and small boutiques of all kinds are flourishing in the Olympic Capital.

Rue de Bourg is known for its steep slope, but also and above all for its luxury brands and beautiful shops. You will find great names in fashion and haute couture here.

Lovers of small designers will also be delighted to stroll around Le Flon, Rue Marterey, the  Rôtillon district or Rue de la Mercerie. Designers’ shops and concept stores regularly open in different parts of the city. We love it!

Relax in a spa

Rainy weather provides an ideal opportunity to be pampered, indulged and to take care of yourself by relaxing in a spa. Lausanne spas welcome you to a unique setting for a moment of relaxation just for you. You would think you were dreaming!

Going out for a drink with friends

Chitchat with friends over a drink is something you simply cannot refuse! In addition, there is no shortage of cool and trendy coffee shops in Lausanne. For a good hot drink, we recommend you go to Loxton or Café Mood! To discover even more 100% cosy addresses for rainy days, here are some more ideas for curling up out of the rain in cafés!

Enjoy the Lausanne nightlife

Who says you can’t go out when it rains? Put grandpa’s slippers and grandma’s herbal teas back in the cupboard and go out and have fun until the small hours! If dancing is not your thing, there’s no excuse since many Lausanne bars regularly offer special evenings that will surprise you. Between karaoke, quizzes and soirées messages (a light alternative to speed dating) you won’t have time to get bored!
